Freelance Interiors Designers
An award-winning studio is hiring two all-rounders on 6-month contracts, delivering layered, highly detailed and bespoke interiors across prime residential and luxury hospitality projects.
Following a number of successful recent pitches and new project wins, this studio is looking for two freelance designers, a Senior Interior Designer and a Middleweight Interior Designer, each on a 6-month contract with an immediate start. You will be based in the studio three, and occasionally four, days per week, working on prime residential and luxury hospitality projects.
Both are all-rounder roles focused on the overall look and feel of each project and its interior architecture. You will lead the creative concept, establishing the design direction, spatial planning and architectural character of each scheme, then develop it through to detailed technical design. Responsibilities include producing detailed drawings for bespoke joinery and architectural elements, resolving details with a strong eye for proportion and layering, and creating 3D visuals to communicate design intent.
A dedicated FF&E team develops furniture, materials and palettes, and you will work closely with them to make sure the original design intent carries through every element of the scheme. You will also work with the design directors, project team, makers and specialist craftspeople. The Senior Interior Designer will take greater ownership of projects and coordination, supporting junior team members, while the Middleweight Interior Designer will contribute across all stages, ensuring deliverables are met to a consistently high standard.
- A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience for the Middleweight role, or 6+ years for the Senior role, within a high-end interior design studio
- A strong background in high-end residential or luxury hotel projects
- A portfolio showing strong concept design and interior architecture, along with detailed technical development
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp; experience with Enscape is highly desirable
- Strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop
- Experience producing detailed drawings for bespoke joinery and architectural details
- A considered eye for proportion, texture and layered interiors, with an appreciation of craftsmanship and period architecture
- The ability to work collaboratively with FF&E designers to maintain a cohesive design vision
- Experience liaising with makers, specialist craftspeople and the wider project team
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- A proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to settle quickly into a busy studio
- A relevant interior design qualification, supported by strong written and spoken English
- Available to start immediately for a 6-month freelance contract
- Ability to work in the studio 3 and sometimes 4 days per week
